PGA TOUR Continues Support Of The Institute
Cal Roth to serve on The Environmental Institute for Golf Advisory Council
The PGA TOUR has renewed its support of The Environmental Institute for Golf, the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). Cal Roth, PGA TOUR vice president of agronomy and 30-year GCSAA member, will represent the PGA TOUR on The Institute's Advisory Council.
The Advisory Council, headed by World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman, provides guidance to The Institute's board of trustees in the areas of outreach, fundraising and strategic planning. The members are selected to enhance The Institute's ability to cultivate relationships with current and potential donors, as well as communicate the importance of the work conducted by The Institute.
"It is quite a statement to have the PGA TOUR continue its service on The Institute Advisory Council," Norman said. "David Pillsbury provided great leadership in the past and I know Cal Roth will continue to do so in the future. His agronomist background and role with the Tour gives him a unique perspective when it comes to the issue of sustainability from a facility perspective."
The PGA TOUR's Tournament Players Club properties won 13 of the 32 GCSAA/Golf Digest Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards in 2009, and have had a national winner in three of the past five years. During the 2010 PGA TOUR season, the FedExCup Fore!Ever campaign is providing environmental improvement grants to six public golf courses used by The First Tee and is working with Audubon International to create a "Green Golfer" curriculum that will teach young golfers nationwide about sustainable golf.
"The PGA TOUR continues to push toward furthering golf's relationship with the environment by supporting programs and organizations like The Environmental Institute for Golf," Roth said. "I am very much looking forward to representing the Tour on the Advisory Council."
This is the third time that the PGA TOUR has committed to The Institute's Advisory Council, as Pillsbury, president of PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties, has represented the PGA TOUR on the Advisory Council for two terms over the past six years. He continues to serve on The Institute's board of trustees as immediate past chairman. The PGA TOUR is a Platinum Tee Club member for donors who contribute $5,000 or more annually to The Institute. The PGA TOUR is also recognized at the Champions Club level in The Institute's cumulative giving program for donors who have contributed $250,000-$499,999 to The Institute since 1987.
The PGA TOUR is a tax-exempt membership organization of professional golfers. The mission of the PGA TOUR is to expand domestically and internationally to substantially increase player financial benefits while maintaining its commitment to the integrity of the game. The PGA TOUR events, which also include the Champions Tour and Nationwide Tour, are also committed to generating revenue for charitable causes in their communities.
The Environmental Institute for Golf is a collaborative effort of the environmental and golf communities, dedicated to strengthening the compatibility of golf with the natural environment. The Institute concentrates on delivering programs and services involving research, education and outreach that communicate the best management practices of environmental stewardship on the golf course. Backed by the organizations of Golf 20/20 and the World Golf Foundation, The Institute is leading the golf course industry's commitment to continual environmental improvement through its initiative "Golf's Drive Toward Sustainability."
